Portrait of U.S. Ambassador Alexander Moore

Moya painted this portrait of Ambassador Moore to accompany the traveling exhibitions of the Velasquez copies. U.S. Ambassador to Madrid Alexander P. Moore had endeared himself to Spanish cultural circles through his direct and frank style in dealing with the King and with the government, and his genuine admiration for the country. He gave immediate support to Moya del Pino’s cultural tour, and as a result the US became the tour's first stop while venues in other countries were still being negotiated.
