Aztec Brewery
Year:
1934
Current Location:
San Diego Public Library, Logan Heights branch, San Diego, California
Moya immersed himself in San Diego’s Chicano community to represent them accurately in this mural for Aztec Brewery’s tasting room. Mount San Miguel is in the background. In addition to this and other murals, he also oversaw the rest of the decoration, including painted and carved tables, chairs, and ceiling beams; chandeliers; tiled mahogany cabinets, stained glass windows and doors; and a 9-foot replica of the Aztec calendar. The original building was demolished, but part of the artwork was saved, cut into sections, and reassembled at the Logan Heights Library, just a few blocks from their original location.
