This view of the San Francisco Bay looks due north from Coit Tower. It shows a bustling bay with commercial and passenger ships, the warehouse district of San Francisco, and Mount Tamalpais. The island of Alcatraz was just then being converted into a maximum security prison. In the lower half of the mural the artist represented his friend, the painter Otis Oldfield, sketching, with himself looking over his shoulder.
