Hauling Water Pipe through Antelope Valley

Hauling Water Pipe through Antelope Valley

Year:

1941

Current Location:

US Post Office, Lancaster Boulevard, Lancaster, CA

A wide desert scene punctuated by Joshua trees (a type of yucca palm quite prevalent in the southern California desert), with a long line of mules pulling a wagon that carries the pipes to bring vital drinking water and irrigation to the desert surrounding Lancaster. While researching this work Moya found particularly interesting the Joshua trees’ contorted shapes, and explored them again frequently in future oil paintings.
