JOSÉ MOYA DEL PINO – CATALOG OF WORKS

Portraits

Portraiture accompanied José Moya del Pino throughout his career, from his early years in Madrid to his final decades in California. Influenced by his close study of Velázquez, he sought not merely a likeness but a sense of character and psychological presence. His subjects included writers, aristocrats, professionals, and even King Alfonso XIII. After arriving in California in 1925, portrait commissions helped him establish a new life and reputation in the San Francisco Bay Area; but this genre remained far more than a source of income—it was the enduring thread that ran through every stage of his long and varied career.
