JOSÉ MOYA DEL PINO – CATALOG OF WORKS

Murals

Between 1921 and 1925, Moya undertook the most ambitious project of his career: creating full-scale copies of every painting by Diego Velázquez in Madrid's Prado Museum. Sponsored by King Alfonso XIII and certified by Prado officials, the collection was intended to tour the Americas, bringing Spain's artistic heritage to audiences who could never see the originals. Although the exhibition's financial collapse stranded Moya in California and permanently altered the course of his life, the project remains one of the most remarkable achievements of technical skill and artistic dedication in twentieth-century Spanish art.
